What is Ptero?
Ptero (ptero.pro) is a free, non-profit AI chat platform that gives you access to several powerful language models in a single, clean web interface. No account, no credit card, and no premium tiers — every model is available at no cost, forever.
Note: at the time of analysis the site was showing a short maintenance notice ("Ptero is a bit busy, wait 3 minutes and try again"), but the platform's core product and documentation are intact.

- Local-first privacy — conversation history lives in your browser's local storage, not on Ptero's servers. Messages are only relayed to the chosen third-party AI provider to generate a reply and are not written to a database. Only messages inside Projects are cloud-synced (and inactive project files are purged after 90 days).
- Open source — the full codebase is public on GitHub (
aminkheddache-dotcom/Ptero), and the app even invites you to inspect the source before chatting. - Agent-style work modes — choose how the AI should respond: Quick Answer, Fast Task, Complex, Full Output or Agent Mode (plans, investigates, executes, verifies).
- Multi-modal input — upload images, PDFs, Office documents, spreadsheets, archives, code files, video and audio, plus drag-and-drop attachments, images and a media gallery.
- Built-in code tooling — Monaco editor sidebar for creating/editing project files, HTML preview pane, artifact cards and one-click download of generated files.
